TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute all necessary documents, and any subsequent amendments including amending the terms, extending the period, or increasing amounts, with Behavioral Health Services, Inc., in an amount up to $315,000, for the Safe Children and Strong Families Program, contingent upon approval from the County of Los Angeles, Department of Children and Family Services, for a period of one year, with the option to extend the agreement for four additional one-year periods. DISCUSSION
Behavioral Health Services, Inc. (BHS), will subcontract with the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department), for Safe Children and Strong Families (SCSF) Program services, contingent upon their receipt of a fully executed contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). The purpose of the SCSF Program is to ensure the physical, emotional, social, and educational development of children in safe and nurturing environments. BHS will subcontract with the Health Department for $315,000 for a period of one year, with the option to extend the agreement for an additional four one-year periods.
BHS seeks to partner with the Health Department to improve the lives of children and families in the greater Long Beach area. Health Department staff will: (1) provide case management services for BHS-referred cases; (2) coordinate, monitor, and report on referred client caseload to BHS; and, (3) provide BHS with the required case management information to attest to the improvement in the lives of children and families experiencing violence and/or neglect in their homes. The Health Department has provided family preservation services for over 20 years and will to continue forging pathways to ensure families are safe and healthy.
