DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with Alabbasi Construction and Engineering for improvements to Cherry Avenue. The street infrastructure on Cherry Avenue between Ocean Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway is in need of rehabilitation. The rehabilitation work consists of replacing damaged curbs and gutters, driveways, alley entrances, sidewalk and the trimming or shaving of tree roots; reconstructing areas of deteriorated pavement; cold milling and resurfacing the pavement; installing bus pads, traffic striping, markings, and markers; traffic control; water quality best management practices; and related improvements between Ocean Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway. This project was closely coordinated with the City of Signal Hill Cherry Avenue widening project. A vicinity map showing the project location is attached.

This project was advertised in the Press-Telegram on May 9, 2014, and 2,834 potential bidders specializing in construction were notified of the bid opportunity. Of those bidders, 72 sets of bid documents were purchased or downloaded via the electronic bid system.
