DISCUSSION
Since 2005, the City Council has approved grant funds for the planning and implementation of the Long Beach-Wilmington Best Babies Collaborative Program (BBC) funded by the Los Angeles County Children and Families First Commission (First 5 L.A.). First 5 L.A. has subsequently awarded $394,167 for a sixth operational period from August 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011 to the City of Long Beach through the Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) as the lead agency, for implementation of the six-year program (October 2005 - June 2011) for the Long Beach-Wilmington Best Babies Collaborative. The Health Department will continue to provide and assist in coordinating perinatal services targeting high-risk women residing in the First 5 LA's targeted zip code areas of 90802, 90805, 90806, 90813, and in the 90744 Wilmington zip code.

The Health Department will continue to work with local service providers, communitybased agencies and healthcare organizations to coordinate a comprehensive network of providers and resources to improve pregnancy outcomes for women in these target areas.
