Notes: Reggie Harrison is one of two Deputy City Managers for the City of Long Beach. He was selected for this position in February 2001. His primary responsibilities are to facilitate the development of major commercial, residential housing and capital improvement projects. In this capacity, he has oversight of projects currently valued at over $1 billion in various stages of development. Mr. Harrison also oversees the Departments of Community Development, Parks, Recreation and Marine, Planning and Building, the Redevelopment Agency and the Long Beach Fire Department. Prior to assuming his current position, Mr. Harrison served as Manager of the Economic Development Bureau and Acting Director of the Community Development Department for the City of Long Beach from January 1999 to August 2000. As Acting Director of the Community Development Department, he provided direction to seven Bureau Managers and oversaw an annual budget of $125 million. From June 1996 to January 1999, he served as Bureau Manager for the Housing Authority in Long Beach, where he developed a fully automated waiting list procedure for citizens applying for low-cost housing. This efficiency implemented under his tenure allowed the City to expand its waiting list in the first year from 3,000 to 14,000 applicants. Before coming to Long Beach, Mr. Harrison served for eight years in various positions with the San Diego Housing Commission and as the Housing Program Manager for the City of Carlsbad in San Diego County. Mr. Harrison has received numerous awards in the fields of Housing and Economic Development. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Delaware State University and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from National University. Mr. Harrison also holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the California Army National Guard.
