21-037CA 16.Beach Access Letter of RecCA-Agenda ItemRecommendation to send a letter of recommendation to the mayor, city council, city manager, and the departments of public works and parks, recreation and marine regarding the need for better access to our beaches for people with disabilities. DISCUSSION: The City is currently investing millions of dollars into the new and improved beach concessions and activity hubs at Alamitos Bay, Junipero Beach and Granada Beach; this is a perfect opportunity to create a more inclusive and welcoming experience for all people with the use of accessible matting. This matting, now being used in other CA beach cities like Huntington Beach and Manhattan Beach (as well as other beaches across the country), will allow beach-goers a seamless transition from the pedestrian path to the ocean, giving people with disabilities an opportunity to experience the beach in a way they never have before.approve recommendationPass Action details Video Video
