TITLE
Recommendation to approve and authorize the transfer of property terminating at the old Pacific Electric rail right-of-way on Eagle Street east of Myrtle Avenue from the City of Long Beach Public Works Department to the City of Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine Department.

DISCUSSION
Currently, the portion of Eagle Street east of Myrtle Avenue terminating at the old Pacific Electric (PE) rail is surplus public right-of-way unused for street purposes. The street property has become a nuisance due to overgrown foliage, graffiti and dumped objects, which require regular trimming and/or removal by City staff.

To enhance and beautify the location, the residents would like to create a community garden. In order to move forward with the beautification project, the property must be transferred from the City of Long Beach, Public Works Department to the City of Long Beach, Parks, Recreation and Marine Department.

FISCAL IMPACT
Conversion of this space from unused public right-of-way to a community garden will reduce City costs for maintaining this property.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
DEE ANDREWS
COUNCILMEMBER, SIXTH DISTRICT
