TITLE
Recommendation to request City Council to affirm a policy following the pattern established from previous years, selecting a Vice Mayor with the most years of service on the City Council.

DISCUSSION
Pursuant to the City Charter, the Vice Mayor is selected biannually after the elections.  Historically, the City Council has selected among its members a Councilmember to serve as Vice mayor who has the most service on the Council.  Such a policy rightfully acknowledges the service and experience of these council persons and removes any politics associated with the selection for this ceremonial position because such rotation is automatic.

The above stated policy should be affirmed by the City Council.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
COUNCILWOMAN GERRIE SCHIPSKE

COUNCILMEMBER PATRICK O'DONNELL
