DISCUSSION
The Traffic Engineering Division received a request from the Alamitos Bay Beach Preservation Group to prohibit the parking of unattached trailers on the Alamitos Bay Peninsula.

An investigation by staff verified that unattached trailers can be regularly found parked along Ocean Boulevard on the Alamitos Bay Peninsula. Based on a technical review of this matter, it is the opinion of the City Traffic Engineer that the prohibition of unattached trailers on Ocean Boulevard could improve safety and provide additional parking opportunities for residents and visitors. In the interest of creating a self-contained area to avoid the relocation of unattached trailers to other nearby streets, the City Traffic Engineer also recommends that all north south cross streets on the Peninsula be included into any implementation of unattached trailer parking prohibitions on Ocean Boulevard. The implementation of unattached trailer parking prohibitions on all of the streets of the Peninsula would be consistent with similar parking prohibitions already adopted on many streets in the Belmont Shore area to the west and north of the Peninsula.

The City Traffic Engineer has notified each of the 575 properties on the Peninsula by mail to obtain feedback on the unattached trailer parking prohibition proposal. The notices contained response forms for residents to complete and return by mail. Of the 575 notices mailed out, 294, or 51 percent, of the response forms were returned. Of those returned, 251 (85 percent) were in support of the proposal, 34 (12 percent) were in opposition and 9 (3 percent) had no opinion on the matter.
