TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $1,500, offset by the Seventh Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a contribution to Goals for Life Foundation to support the 2023 Waterfront Celebration on September 10, 2023; and
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $1,500 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
Goals For Life, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation, is an educational youth development program that, in coordination with local school districts, teaches potentially at-risk youth the skills and strategies that are necessary for success in life. Goals For Life (GFL) has a team of former professional football players who have been carefully trained to deliver a detailed curriculum in public schools.
For over 30 years, GFL has utilized the talents of former professional athletes to deliver a goal-oriented curriculum structured to motivate students and ensure that they understand, embrace and practice success principles. Councilmember Uranga would like to support Goals for Life in their efforts.
This matter has been reviewed by Budget Analyst Joe R. Guerrero on June 30, 2023.
FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide funds to Goals for Life Foundation to support the 2023 Waterfront Celebration as written above. The total appropriation increase of $1,500 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Seventh Council District One-Time District Priority funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. This recommendation is anticipated to have minimal impact on staff hours beyond the budgeted scope of duties and a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
