TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $1,500, offset by the Eighth Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide a donation to African American Cultural Center of Long Beach in support of their “Evening of Jazz”; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $1,500, to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION
“The mission of the African American Cultural Center of Long Beach is to preserve, honor and celebrate the heritage and advance the culture of the Black/African American community in Long Beach and beyond.”

On June 30, 2023, the African American Cultural Center of Long Beach will host “An Evening of Jazz” and its history in Long Beach. It will feature the music of the Legendary Alvin Hayes, Jr and his band, Z Scott on Violin and Alex and Charles Julian Fearing. The Expo Center will be transformed into a 1950s Jazz Lounge. Guests will listen to the intoxicating music of local greatness. The AACCLB will recognize John Malveaux with a Lifetime Achievement Award. He has spent his life introducing great talent in all music genres and put a national spotlight on musicians within and brought famous talent to Long Beach. It will be an event soaked in local African American music and congeniality.

FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager Department to provide a contribution to the African American Cultural Center of Long Beach to support their “Evening of Jazz”. The total appropriation increase of $1,500 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of the Eighth Council District Onetime District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department.
