TITLE

Recommendation to authorize City Attorney to pay sum of $99,000, in full settlement of lawsuit entitled Michael Medina-Fernandez v. City of Long Beach, et al., United States District Court Case No. 2:21-cv-07038-JPR.

DISCUSSION

Plaintiff alleges that his civil rights were violated on May 31, 2020, during a protest in downtown Long Beach.

Following extensive negotiations, Plaintiff agreed to accept $99,000.00 -inclusive of costs and fees - as a full settlement of this case.

The settlement was discussed in closed session, and approved, by the Government Operations and Efficiency Committee (Attorney/Client) on March 21, 2023.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.
