TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $3,000, offset by the Eighth Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide donations of:
1. $2,500 to Long Beach Community Action Partnership in support
of their annual Long Beach Night CAP event;
2. $500 to Long Beach Unity Festival to support their 2023
Appreciation Gala & Fundraiser Vision Launch; and
Decrease appropriation in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $3,000, to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
Long Beach Community Action Partnership (LBCAP) is one of 1,100 community action agencies aiding disadvantaged residents nationwide. LBCAP provides essential services such as energy assistance programs, public-access television, tax assistance, youth mentorship, and more to residents throughout Long Beach and Eastern Los Angeles County. Each year, LBCAP hosts its Long Beach Night CAP fundraiser to support the programs and services it provides. This year’s event will be held on March 10th. This donation will support the event and the ongoing work of the organization.
Long Beach Unity Festival Inc. (LBUF) is a local nonprofit organization promoting unity, reconciliation, and nonviolence to diverse communities through music, art, and healthy lifestyle initiatives. They also provide fiscal sponsorship to Spirit of Praise Sacred Artistry International, an artistic ministry teaching dance worldwide. On January 20, 2023, LBUF is hosting their 2023 Appreciation Gala & Fundraiser Vision Launch. This donation will support their event and the ongoing work of LBUF.
