DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into an agreement with the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to accept grant funding to continue the Health Department’s existing and expansion of the “GreenlightLB” Initiative.

The Health Department will use OTS funding to discourage drug impaired driving to reduce deaths and injuries that result from these impaired driving collisions. Activities will include targeted cannabis and drug impaired driving education to engage youth and young adults in prevention efforts, educational workshops for parents and faculty, education and intervention around bars, clubs, and dispensaries, promoting substance-impaired driving information and awareness through the distribution of age, language, and culturally appropriate print and digital media, and city-wide “Long Beach Safe Streets” Awareness Week activities.

The Initiative aligns with the City of Long Beach’s (City) recently adopted Long Beach Safe Streets (Vision Zero) Initiative.
