TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $500 offset by the Eighth Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a donation to the Jazz Angels in support of their Jazz on the Patio event; and

Decrease appropriation in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $500, to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

The Jazz Angels is a Long Beach-based organization committed to bettering kids’ lives through music education. Founded in 2007, the Jazz Angels provide opportunities for local youth to learn about the genre, learn to play an instrument, work collaboratively, and even play alongside professional musicians. On Sunday, August 28, 2022, the Jazz Angels will host their Jazz on the Patio event, featuring three-time Grammy Award Winner Tom Scott. A legendary saxophonist, Scott will play beside the young musicians enrolled in the program at the event. As a supporter of the arts and a lover of jazz music, I am requesting the Council’s approval to lend my support toward this important event.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution to the Jazz Angels for the Jazz on the Patio event on August 28, 2022. The appropriation increase of $500 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of the Eighth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities. There is no local job impact associated with the recommendation.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

AL AUSTIN COUNCILMAN,

EIGHTH DISTRICT
