TITLE

DISCUSSION

As our Long Beach population ages, it is increasingly important for us, as a City, to think proactively about the needs of our seniors. Housing security and availability is a major issue for our senior population in Long Beach and should also be a focus as we work to develop the City for the future needs we see in decades to come. Therefore, the City Council would request a report back on the status of senior housing in Long Beach today, as well as opportunities for the development of senior housing in the future.

In recent years we have seen significant investment in housing throughout Long Beach, and we expect even more housing development in the coming years. As a City Council there has been major focus placed on affordable housing, as well as low- and moderate-income housing, workforce housing, and creating policies that incentivize and ensure we are creating needed housing units for all Long Beach residents, present and future. However, there las been less direct attention placed on developing units or housing projects that focus specifically on our senior community which is often unique from our general population.
