TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $2,250, offset by the Fifth Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a donation to the following: 1) Cubberley School Foundation, in the amount of $250, to support the establishment of trees planted in partnership with ‘I Dig Long Beach’; 2) Care Closet LBC, in the amount of $1,000, to support their ongoing operations to assist and provide opportunities for people experiencing homelessness; and 3) Lakewood Village Neighborhood Association, in the amount of $1,000 to support their annual summer concert at Pan Am Park; and
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $2,250 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
Councilwoman Stacy Mungo Flanigan would like to support the following annual events and community programming:
• Cubberley School Foundation in support of their efforts to maintain and establish the 40 trees planted in partnership with Housing & Neighborhood Services’ ‘I Dig Long Beach’ program on May 3, 2022
• Care Closet LBC in support of their efforts to provide direct assistance to people experiencing homelessness and help facilitate their long-term goals.
• Lakewood Village Neighborhood Organization annual summer concert on August 27th, 2022, to assist with offsetting expenses related to talent fees and promotion of this free community concert.
This matter has been reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on May 26, 2022.
FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution of $250 to Cubberley School Foundation, $1,000 to Care Closet LBC, and $1,000 to Lakewood Village Neighborhood Association, totaling $2,250, to support their events and programs as written above. The total appropriation increase of $2,250 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Fifth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. This recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
Respectfully Submitted,
STACY MUNGO COUNCILWOMAN,
FIFTH DISTRICT
