TITLE

Recommendation to receive and file a report from Mayor Garcia’s travel to Washington, D.C. with City and Port of Long Beach officials for meetings with the City’s federal legislative delegation and federal agencies.

 

DISCUSSION

Mayor Robert Garcia represented the City of Long Beach when he traveled to Washington, D.C. from April 3-7, 2022. He was accompanied by Deputy Executive Director of the Port of Long Beach Noel Hacegaba. They met with the City’s federal legislative delegation including Senators Padilla and Feinstein, Congressmembers Lowenthal and Barragán, as well as White House officials from the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Infrastructure Implementation team, and officials from the U.S. Department of Transportation. They discussed Long Beach priority projects for funding through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, including the expansion of On-Dock Rail at the Port of Long Beach and Shoemaker Bridge replacement and Shoreline Drive Realignment projects, in addition to other pertinent federal issues affecting the City. The Mayor also met with officials from the U.S. Department of Treasury and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to discuss the City’s priorities for affordable housing, rental assistance, and COVID-19 recovery.
