TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $400, offset by Sixth Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to support the African American Heritage Society of Long Beach virtual Black History Month program, “Breaking Barriers: Sports Edition”; and

 

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $400 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

 

DISCUSSION

The African American Heritage Society of Long Beach (AAHS) was formed in 1997 under the leadership of Indira Hale-Tucker and Doris Topsy-Elvord. AAHS is dedicated to preserving and expanding public awareness of Black and African American contributions to our nation’s development. This year marks AAHS’s 25th anniversary.

 

African American Heritage Society’s virtual Black History Month’s program titled, “Breaking Barriers: Sports Edition ", which will celebrate the significant contributions of Black and African American in the sports industry. The program will feature interviews and highlight accomplishments of many of our local Long Beach athletes.

 

STATEMENT OF URGENCY

Because of the urgency of this item, a fiscal review was not able to be performed.

Approve recommendation.
