DISCUSSION
On July 18, 2017, the City Council authorized the execution of an agreement with the City of Los Angeles (Contract No. C-129853) to accept $150,000 in City of Los Angeles General Funds to operate a Work Readiness and Employment Services Design for the Los Angeles Reconnections Career Academy (LARCA) 2.0 Program. Program participants have access to various services provided at the Harbor Gateway WorkSource Center, including education and employment preparation training, supportive services, and occupational skills training.

Subsequent amendments were executed to increase funding by an additional amount of $293,000, for a total award of $443,000, and extending the term of the agreement through June 30, 2021. City Council approval is now requested to execute a sixth amendment to the agreement to extend the current contract through June 27, 2022, to continue to provide work readiness training and comprehensive employment services under the program.

Pacific Gateway operates the San Pedro-based Harbor Gateway WorkSource Center (Center) on behalf of the communities surround the Los Angeles Harbor under a contract with the City of Los Angeles. The Center functions similarly to other Pacific Gateway job centers by providing employment assistance to adults and dislocated workers, and by partnering with businesses to meet their workforce needs.
