TITLE

DISCUSSION
It is important that we celebrate Juneteenth as a time to honor our diversity and support social justice and equity in Long Beach. These funds will be used to pay logistical needs and local entertainers for this unique cultural event. The event will be broadly promoted on radio, social media, and print media.

The 2021 Juneteenth Celebration will be Saturday, June 19 in Downtown Long Beach on Pine Ave between 4th and 5th Street in the First Council District, and will attract downtown residents and folks citywide.

The event, which could become one of the premier Juneteenth celebrations in Southern California, will feature a variety of music, including blues, jazz, gospel, and traditional African drumming, as well as a step show, poetry and guest speakers.

FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation provides One-time District Priority Funds to Partners of Parks to support the 2021 Juneteenth Celebration. The total appropriation increase of $1,000 in the City Manager Department will be offset by a transfer of $500 in Second Council District One-time District Priority Funds and $500 in First Council District One-time District Priority Funds from the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department.
