DISCUSSION
INTRODUCTION:

The Wilson High School instrumental music program has contributed positively to the community and the entire City of Long Beach since the school opened. Supporting music and the skills, friendship, and cooperation it fosters is a priority for the City and improves the lives of students and countless neighborhoods. Annually the Wilson High School Band performs a concert in the Recreation Park to commemorate the end of the year. This year that concert is being held on May 22, 2021 and support is sought for that upcoming event.

The Wilson High School instrumental music program brings benefits to the whole city, including students, residents, and visitors therefore, the City Council should support their positive contributions and plan to host this upcoming event.

This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on May 14, 2021.

FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager Department to provide a donation to the Wilson Instrumental Music Booster Organization for support of their annual concert. The total appropriation increase in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $700 is offset by a decrease of appropriation of Third Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department.
