Recommendation to adopt resolution approving an amendment to the most recent Harbor Department Salary Resolution No. HD-3012.
DISCUSSION
Background
Each year, the Harbor Department, along with other City Departments, submits a Salary Resolution for approval to their respective appointing authorities. The latest adopted Harbor Salary Resolution was for Fiscal Year 2020. On September 14, 2020, the Board of Harbor Commissioners approved the Resolution (Resolution Number HD-3012). On October 6,2020, the City Council approved and adopted the Resolution (RES-20-0 131).
The Harbor Department has an operational need to reclassify Special Services Officer I-IV positions to a new Harbor-specific classification, Harbor Patrol Officer I-III. We are requesting an amendment to the current resolution to add this classification for immediate use to assist with our current Talent Acquisition and Retention efforts in the Security Division.
The Harbor Department, the Department of Human Resources and Civil Service have met and conferred with the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) union regarding this request. All aforementioned entities recommend the approval of this classification.
On April 26, 2021, the Board of Harbor Commissioners approved the amended Salary Resolution HD-3032. Attachments II and III have been updated to reflect the new titles with no change to the salary grades. The new titles are listed below.
