TITLE

DISCUSSION
Even as some students have returned to in-person education, many traditional after-school and weekend activities are limited or curtailed to reduce the spread of COVID-19. As outdoor youth sports have been allowed to resume and existing basketball courts in the Second District are oversubscribed, additional play resources in new areas are needed. Youth and families are in need of safe outdoor recreation resources in the short-term, and four new basketball hoops for deployment in new areas of the Second District will provide beneficial recreation opportunities.

FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation provides One-time District Priority Funds to purchase and deploy four new portable basketball hoops in the Second District. The total appropriation increase of $10,300 in the Parks, Recreation and Marine Department will be offset by a transfer of Second Council District One-time District Priority Funds from the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
