DISCUSSION

INTRODUCTION:

As part of the mission of Interval House to provide crisis housing to victims of domestic violence they are partnering with Wilson High School to recognize February 2021 as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month in Long Beach.

This campaign here in Long Beach is intended to bring community awareness and prevent teen dating violence. This form of violence is a serious and growing problem for our youth with 1 in 3 high school students experiencing physical, emotional, or sexual violence in dating relationships and

Interval House started the first teen violence prevention program developed by young people who grew up with violence in 1980 Interval House also started the first domestic violence teen hotline in the nation answered by teens 24 hours a day, seven days a week in multiple languages in 1982.

Therefore it is necessary for the City Council to receive a brief update on this effort and support bringing greater attention to teen dating violence awareness and prevention.
