TITLE

WITHDRAWN

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $5,400, offset by the Sixth Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a contribution to Partners of Parks to support the Sunny Central Neighborhood Association’s programming efforts and membership fee with Partners of Parks; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $5,400 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

Partners of Parks serves as a fiscal agent for many neighborhood organizations across the City of Long Beach. Sunny Central Neighborhood Association wishes to

collaborate on charitable activities or projects and establish a fiscal sponsorship relationship with Partners of Parks. The intent is to begin raising funds to augment city projects that beautify the Martin Luther King Junior (MLK) Park area while also benefitting families in need.

This allocation will serve as a one-time contribution of $5,000 for Sunny Central Neighborhood Association’s programming efforts, which may include community clean-ups, food giveaways, tree planting and watering projects, holiday neighborhood gatherings, adopt a family programs, neighborhood leadership and mentoring programs, etc. The remaining $400 are to serve as a direct payment to Partners of Parks for the annual fee of the association’s membership to the partnership. It is expected Sunny Central Neighborhood Association will strongly establish itself and will be able to fundraise continued annual fees and resources for the community.

This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on November 24, 2020.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution to Partners of Parks to support the Sunny Central Neighborhood Association. The total appropriation increase in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $5,400 is offset by the Sixth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the Citywide Activities Department. Implementing this recommendation is anticipated to result in a minimal impact on staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

DEE ANDREWS
