TITLE

Recommendation to request Parks, Recreation and Marine Public Works Department to enter into Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Friends of Bixby Dog Park, to allow Public Works Department to coordinate a semi-annual delivery of free wood chips at the Bixby Park Dog Park.  (District 2)

DISCUSSION

The Bixby Park Dog Park is a community destination for those with furry friends. Since the beginning of 2020, the Friends of Bixby Dog Park have been an advocate for the needs of the community. With the number of visitors in the park, dust and muddy messes are bound to happen. To prevent such mess, wood chips were delivered as a cost effective alternative the City of Long Beach already provides. Wood chips as reliable as they are, the park needs a refill every six months to ensure effectiveness of those visiting the park.

Parks, Recreation, and Marine are responsible for ensuring wood chips are always accessible and work with Public Works for its delivery to the park. This request ensures there is a biannual delivery of wood chips free of cost to Bixby Park Dog Park and partnership with the Friends of Bixby Dog Park for scheduling of dates.
