TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Parks, Recreation and Marine Department by $9,688, offset by the Second Council District One-Time District Priority funds transferred from Citywide Activities Department for the Promenade Area Park Shading; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $9,688 to offset a transfer to Parks, Recreation, and Marine Department.

DISCUSSION

The Promenade Square, located in the downtown area, opened to the community in December 2016. The park offers an open space with a slide, climbing structures, and rocks. As temperatures rise through the summer, the more heat the playground equipment receives making it unsafe for children. Children can be prone to severe burn injuries if there is no protective material.

This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on March 6, 2020.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation provides District Priority Funds to the Parks, Recreation, and Marine Department to fund the Promenade Square Park Slide Shade. The total appropriation increase of 9,688 in the General Fund Group in the Parks, Recreation, and Marine Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of the Second Council District One-Time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
