TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file a presentation in honor of the 25th Anniversary of the Children's Day USA Festival.

DISCUSSION
BACKGROUND:

The Children's Day USA Festival is observed the last Sunday of April to encourage people of all ages to take positive actions that benefit children. The Children's Day USA Organization encourages adults to be better parents, mentors and role models to children and looks forward to a future where all adults think about their current actions and how they can affect the lives of future generations.

The motto of Children's Day is "to do something wonderful to make our world a better place." This motto is a reminder that each person can do something today to make dreams come true in the lives of children. Children's Day also serves as a reminder that we must take care of our Earth, value education and foster goodwill for the sake of our children.

The Children's Day USA Organization was founded in 1995 by Summer Love Hansen, and this year the organization is celebrating its 25th Anniversary. This event has been made possible with the support of its sponsors, including Councilmember Roberto Uranga, the City of Long Beach, Congressman Alan Lowenthal, Assemblymember Patrick O'Donnell, the Long Beach Unified School District, and the California Conservation Corps.

This year there will be Children's Day USA celebrations on Saturday April 20th and Sunday April 28th The festivities on April 20th will be "Earth Day &Child's Day! Hooray for Kids & Scouts," and will take place at Scherer Park (4600 Long Beach Blvd) from 11 :00 AM - 3:00 PM. The "Children's Day Celebration & Picnic at EI Dorado Park" will take place at EI Dorado Park near the Duck Pond (2400 Studebaker) from 11 :00 AM - 3:00 PM. Both events will include multi-cultural shows, children's choirs, dancers, singers, drummers and lots of wonderful young folks.
