TITLE
Recommendation to approve expenditure of $10,000 as a reward for information to solve the murder of Fred Taft on July 21, 2018.
DISCUSSION
On July 21, 2018, at the Pan-American Park in Long Beach, Fred Taft was shot and killed in a park restroom. Mr. Taft was attending a family reunion being held at the park when he lost his life. The suspect fled on foot after the shooting, and only a rough description (white male adult in his 50's, approximately six feet tall, of medium build, and possibly wearing a dark shirt, light shorts, and a hat) was made of that suspect.
Supervisor Janice Hahn of Los Angeles County, who represents Long Beach, has proposed offering an initial $10,000, which Long Beach would match for a total $20,000 reward. Together this reward could be beneficial to the ongoing investigation. The Long Beach Police Department believes there is information available on the suspect that could be brought forward if a reward was offered. Additional details on the suspect and the motive could be valuable to the investigation.
