TITLE
Recommendation to adopt resolution authorizing City Manager, or designee, to execute all necessary documents to receive and expend grant funding from the State of California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control 2018 grant, in the amount of $100,000, for the period of July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019; and
Increase appropriations in the General Grants Fund (SR 120) in the Police Department (PD) by $100,000, offset by reimbursement revenue. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested for the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) to receive and expend grant funding from the State of California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). On May 31, 2018, the LBPD was awarded grant funding from the ABC 2018 grant in the amount of $100,000. The grant monies will be used for overtime, investigative services, and training to identify and focus on problematic ABC-licensed establishments, and to ensure compliance with City and State laws to improve public safety. The grant period will be from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Monica J. Kilaita and by Budget Management Officer Rhutu Amin Gharib on June 25, 2018.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on July 17, 2018, to expedite use of the grant funds.
FISCAL IMPACT
As the ABC 2018 grant is currently unbudgeted, an appropriation increase in the General Grants Fund (SR 120) in the Police Department (PD) in the amount of $100,000 is requested, offset by reimbursement revenue. There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.
SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
