DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into contracts with Tri-Pacific Supply, Inc., and Ferguson Enterprises, Inc., for the as-needed purchase of polyethylene (PE) pipe and fittings to be used by Long Beach Gas and Oil (LBGO) and its contractors for the repair, maintenance, and construction of the City’s natural gas pipeline system, which is necessary for the safe and efficient delivery of natural gas to LBGO customers in Long Beach and Signal Hill.

The bid was advertised in the Long Beach Press-Telegram on September 21, 2016, and 4,133 potential bidders specializing in pipe and fittings were notified of the bid opportunity. Of those bidders, 24 downloaded the bid via the City's electronic bid system. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the seventh floor of City Hall, and the Division's website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasing . A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division's weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 22 local, minority, and women-owned business groups. Two bids were received on October 4, 2016. Of those two bidders, one was a Minority-owned Business Enterprise (MBE), one was a Women-owned Business Enterprise (WBE), none were certified Small Business Enterprises (SBEs), and one was a Long Beach business (Local).
