TITLE
Recommendation to approve Mayor's designees as argument writers for two Long Beach ballot measures appearing on the June 7, 2016 California Statewide Election ballot.
DISCUSSION
On March 1, the City Council gave final approval to two Long Beach ballot measures, which will appear on the June 7, 2016 California Statewide Election ballot. The two ballot measures would 1.) Establish a City of Long Beach, transactions and use tax to be administered by the State Board of Equalization and 2.) Establish a City of Long Beach budget stabilization ("Rainy Day") fund.
Per the Long Beach Municipal code, argument writers are designated by the Mayor, with the approval of the City Council. In making such designation, the Mayor designates one of the following:
• The Mayor;
• An elected officer of the City;
• An appointive officer of the City;
• An association of citizens; or
• An individual voter.
Arguments either for or against the ballot measures are due to the City Clerk by Friday, March 18, 2016, while rebuttal arguments are due by Monday, March 28,2016.
