DISCUSSION
Since 1974, the Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) has operated the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Supplement Program for low-income families through a contract with the State of California Department of Public Health (CDPH). This program provides nutrition education through in-group and individual counseling, supplemental food vouchers, breastfeeding support, and health and social services referral to eligible participants throughout the City.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Linda Vu on June 24, 2015 and by Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on June 26, 2015.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on July 21, 2015, to provide adequate time to execute the agreement by October 1, 2015 and to continue operations without a lapse.
