TITLE

Recommendation to authorize City Attorney to pay the sum of $180,000 in full settlement of the lawsuit entitled Victoria Redfud v. City of Long Beach, Case No. BC526302.

DISCUSSION
Plaintiff, a Clerk Typist III, with 14 years of service with the City, filed suit against the City and her supervisor Miriam LaChica following her termination alleging discrimination and harassment because of her disabilities and age, and retaliation for taking FMLA leave. She also claimed that she was not given reasonable accommodations for her disabilities.  After a lengthy mediation, Plaintiff agreed to accept $180,000 as full settlement, inclusive of attorney’s fees and costs.

A presentation was made to the Economic Development and Finance Committee on
June 23, 2015, at which time the Committee voted to approve settlement of the above-referenced matter.
