TITLE
Recommendation to request City Manager to report back to City Council within 45 days on the measures that the City is taking to meet the new water conservation requirements and request the Water Department to provide a report on what additional measures the Water Department is implementing for residents and businesses.
DISCUSSION
On April 1, 2015, Governor Jerry Brown proclaimed a drought state of emergency and ordered mandatory water conservation to achieve a 25 percent statewide reduction in water usage.
Long Beach has been a leader in water conservation programs and incentives for residents to reduce their water usage. Because of Long Beach's previous conservation efforts and lower per capita usage, the State Water Resources Control Board has assigned the City an additional 20 percentconservation requirement.
We would like the City Manager to provide a report on how the City is planning to reduce its water usage, including at our parks and city facilities as well as through our Office of Sustainability.
We would also like to request the Water Department to provide an update to the City Council and the public on what additional measures they are taking to achieve this conservation requirement.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact with the report.
SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
