TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file a report from the Mayor on the City's involvement in the Long Beach College Promise.
DISCUSSION
In October, the City of Long Beach became a signatory to the Long Beach College Promise, joining Long Beach Unified School District, Long Beach City College, and California State University at Long Beach in an expanded effort to support Long Beach students' education. The College Promise has been a successful program to help transition LBUSD students to postsecondary education and support them in achieving success in college. The expanded College Promise will now incorporate support for universal preschool, increased internships for students, and more funding for scholarships. The Mayor will report on the progress so far in these efforts.
