TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to accept a donation of video surveillance cameras in the downtown area from the Downtown Long Beach Associates and the Long Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau; and execute any and all documents necessary to effectuate the donation.  (Districts 1,2)

DISCUSSION
The Downtown Long Beach Associates and the Long Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau recently installed 60 video surveillance cameras in the downtown area to enhance safety and security for those patrons visiting that area.  They would like to donate these video surveillance cameras to the City to enhance public safety.  Video surveillance cameras have proven to be a cost-effective tool for preventing, deterring, and investigating crimes. The Technology and Innovation Department has assumed responsibility for maintaining all video surveillance cameras owned by the City. Due to the recent installation and the age of the equipment, minimal maintenance is anticipated.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Kendra Carney and by Revenue  Officer Julissa Jose-Murray on December 5, 2014.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on December 16, 2014 to accept the donation of video surveillance cameras in the downtown area from the Downtown Long Beach Associates and the Long Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

FISCAL IMPACT
There is no equipment or installation cost associated with the donation. The Technology and Innovation Department will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the cameras. Ongoing costs, including labor and parts, will be absorbed in the General Services Fund (IS 385) in the Technology and Innovation Department (TI). There is no local job impact associated with this request.
