DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into an annual contract with Ocean Blue Environmental Services, Inc., for providing as-needed hazardous waste removal services to comply with health and safety regulations, in accordance with pertinent federal, state, county and local laws. As specified in the contract terms, the contractor shall be available 24-hours a day, seven-days a week, and shall respond to emergencies within 30 minutes upon receipt of a call for an emergency order. Departments participating in this contract include the Long Beach Airport, City Clerk, Development Services, Fire, Long Beach Gas and Oil, Health and Human Services, Library Services, Police, Parks, Recreation & Marine, Public Works and Water.


The bid was advertised in the Press-Telegram on August 21, 2014, and 4,459 potential bidders specializing in hazardous waste removal services were notified of the bid opportunity. Of those bidders, 43 downloaded the bid via our electronic bid system. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the seventh floor of City Hall, and the Division’s website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasing . A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division’s weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 30 local, minority and women-owned business groups.
