TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report on visit to Rosie the Riveter Memorial Park on July 28, 2007, in Richmond, CA.

DISCUSSION
On March 23, 2007 I was proud to re-dedicate Douglas Park "Rosie the Riveter Park" in honor and in memory of the women who worked at the Douglas Plant during World War II. Subsequent to the dedication a Rosie the Riveter Task Force has been formed for the purpose of establishing, fundraising & building a final Rosie Memorial.

On July 28,2007 I traveled to Richmond, California to visit their Rosie Memorial Park for the for the purpose of touring the facility, meeting with staff, and gaining conceptual insight for the Long Beach's Rosie the Riveter Park.

Located in and titled the Richmond Rosie the Riveter Memorial Park at the site of the former Kaiser Shipyard, the memorial park was designed by architects Susan Schwartzenberg and Cheryl Barton and sponsored by the Richmond Redevelopment Agency for the City of Richmond.

This was a very educational trip and provided me with information, historical access, and an opportunity to create and foster a working relationship with the Board as we move forward in the fund development stage of our Rosie the Riveter Park.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
