TITLE
Recommendation to adopt resolution designating the City of Long Beach (City) as the administering agency and signatory authority for Workforce Investment Act Programs and designating the Workforce Investment Board to provide policy guidance and oversight for the cities of Long Beach, Signal Hill, Lomita and Torrance. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
Through acceptance of federal Workforce Investment Act funds on behalf of the residents and businesses of Long Beach, Signal Hill, Lomita, and Torrance, the City serves as administrative entity on behalf of the local workforce investment area. Prior to releasing grant funds to the workforce area, the State requires a resolution by the City designating the Workforce Development Bureau as Administering Agency, and the Workforce Investment Board as the policy and guidance entity for the consortium.
This letter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Gary J. Anderson on May 21, 2007 and Budget and Performance Management Manager David Wodynski on June 7, 2007.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on June 19, 2007 to facilitate processing of required documents.
FISCAL IMPACT
Sufficient funds are currently appropriated in the Community Development Grants Fund (SR 150) in the Department of Community Development (CD). There is no impact to the General Fund.
