TITLE
Recommendation to request City Manager to provide an update to the City Council within the next 45 days on the planned activities and sponsorships, and the level of City involvement, both financial and in-kind, for the 2007 Long Beach Sea Festival.

DISCUSSION
Many of the City's major summertime activities are included under the umbrella of the Sea Festival, including the Summer Concerts in the Park, the Dragon Boat Festival, the Jr. Olympic Festival, the Mayor's Cup Race and the Great Sand Sculpture event.

Earlier this month, the Mayor and the Sea Festival Association announced the addition of a nationally-televised A VP Crocs Pro Beach Volleyball event as part of this year's Sea Festival.

Previously, the City Manager indicated that local businesses would be invited to participate in sponsorship opportunities for these events. With more than 40 activities planned as part of the Sea Festival, I believe it would be beneficial for the Council and public to receive an update on the Sea Festival and the local sponsorship program.

On May 16, 2006, the City Council requested the City Manager to provide an update to the Council within 30 days on the planned activities and sponsorships for the 2006 Sea Festival. This update never came before the Council at a meeting.

I would like to request an update at a Council meeting on the 2007 Long Beach Sea Festival within the next 45 days.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
