TITLE
Recommendation to conduct a City Council study session with a report from Barbara Raymond, co-author of a study commissioned by the RAND Corporation entitled, "Police Department Challenges After September 11:  Anticipated Expanded Duties and a Changing Labor Pool," date to be determined at a future time.

DISCUSSION
On February 6, 2007 the Personnel and Civil Services Committee conducted a meeting to discuss Long Beach Police Department staffing levels.  The committee received a report from Barbara Raymond, co-author of a study commissioned by the Rand Corporation entitled, "Police Department Challenges After September 11:  Anticipated Expanded Duties and a Changing Labor Pool."

Conducting a City Council Study Session on this topic is relevant to our continuing conversation on adding additional Police Officers to the Long Beach Police Department, and will assist in setting priorities for doing so.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

Councilwoman Gerrie Schipski, Fifth District
Councilmember Gary DeLong, Third District
