TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report of the November 12-17, 2006 Washington, D.C. trip to discuss the top priorities for the City of Long Beach with members of Congress and the Administration.
 
DISCUSSION
On November 12-17, Mayor Foster traveled to Washington, D.C. and was joined by Federal legislation Committee Chair Gary Delong from November 13-16.  Mayor Foster and Councilmember Delong discussed the top priorities of the City with over 20 members of Congress and the Administration during this trip.  Attachment A provides further detail on their schedule of meetings.
 
In these meetings, the following topics were discussed:
o      the importance of goods movement and the need to improve air quality;
o      the need for additional C-17 production orders;
o      preservation of the CDBG program;
o      increased Homeland Security funding based on risk and funding for Port security;
o      the need for federal funding for local projects including the Los Cerritos Wetlands, the long Beach Sports Park, Dredging in the Los Angeles River, and the City's other FY 07 Appropriation requests;
o      inclusion of legislative language to resolve a leasehold Exchange at the Aquarium of the Pacific;
o      other issues on the City's Federal legislative Agenda.

Approve recommendation.
