TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report on travel to the Conference of Mayors Event in Santa Barbara, CA, and travel to Sacramento, CA.

DISCUSSION
On September 15, I traveled to Santa Barbara to meet with the leadership of the Conference of Mayors.

There I met with leaders of other municipalities to discuss issues affecting local governments. The U.S. Conference of Mayors is the nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. The primary roles of the Conference of Mayors are to -

·      Promote the development of effective national urban/suburban policy;

·      Strengthen federal-city relationships;

·      Ensure that federal policy meets urban needs;

·      Provide mayors with leadership and management tools; and

·      Create a forum in which mayors can share ideas and information.

On August 28-29, I traveled to Sacramento to meet with State Leadership and our representatives. I advocated on behalf on the City on measures before the legislature that would benefit Long Beach.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
