TITLE

DISCUSSION
The City of Long Beach intends to reconstruct approximately 600 linear feet of eroded slope between the Davies launch ramp and Los Cerritos Channel, reconstruct or replace six fire water connections to the existing floating dock, and provide for the installation of electronic message signage at Marina Drive and East 2nd Street. The project site is located at 6204 East Second Street. A vicinity map of the area is attached.

City Council adoption of the plans and specifications and award of contract to the lowest responsible bidder are being recommended concurrently to expedite the project implementation. The project was advertised for bids on July 9, 2006, and bids were opened on August 18, 2006. Information regarding the bid and W.W. Stephenson Co., Inc., is shown on the attached contract awards document.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Lori A. Conway and Budget Management Officer David Wodynski on October 9, 2006. In accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act, Categorical Exemption Number CEP-100-06 has been issued for this project.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action on this matter is requested on October 17, 2006, to authorize commencement of this Public Works project prior to expiration of coastal permits.

Construction is anticipated to begin in December 2006 and should take approximately 60 working days to complete.

FISCAL IMPACT
