DISCUSSION
On October 30, 2001, the City Council authorized a three-year agreement with Tetra Tech, Inc., (TTI) in the amount of $400,000 to supplement the Public Works Engineering Bureau staff in supporting Parks, Recreation and Marine's implementation of the Bluff Erosion Control Program (see Attachment I). TTI provides the necessary landscape architectural and engineering services of a specialized nature required to support the design work for such a program.

The agreement with TTI consists of design work to repair severely eroded bluff areas located at Bixby Park, 12th Place, 7th Place, 5th Place, 1st Place and the Long Beach Museum of Art. The agreement also includes the preparation of conceptual drawings to examine the feasibility of constructing an amphitheatedskate park at Bixby Park. Such construction would provide stability to an eroding bluff and provide community benefits in the form of entertainment and recreation.

The conceptual drawings for the Bixby Park Redevelopment, Amphitheatedskate PaMRecreation Area Project (Bixby Park Project) were completed and submitted in January 2004 to the Planning Commission for review and approval of the Local Coastal Development Permit. The Permit was granted on May 6, 2005. Because the permit process has taken longer than originally anticipated, it is requested that the term of the agreement be extended through October 31,2006.

With the exception of the Bixby Park Project, final design work for the remainder of the Bluff Erosion Control Project is complete.
