TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute second amendment to Contract No. 28437 with Long Beach Unified School District for jail food services, to extend the term of the agreement to June 30, 2005, at an estimated cost of $93,000.  (Citywide)

DISCUSSION
On September 2 , 2003 , the City Council authorized an agreement with Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) to provide food services to the inmates of the men jail during the reconstruction of the Public Safety Building at 400 West Broadway (see Attachment 1).  On November 9, 2004, the City Council authorized a First Amendment to the Agreement that increased the contract amount by $186 000 and extended the term an additional six months , to March 31 2005, while a request for proposals was being prepared to solicit bids for prepackaged meals for the inmates (see Attachment 2).  A second amendment is necessary to extend the contract for a second three-month
period , to June 30, 2005. The bidding and award process for the Police Jail Food Service contract has taken longer than projected but it is anticipated that the contract will be awarded by June 30 , 2005.

This letter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Richard Anthony on April 7 , 2005 and Budget Management Officer David Wodynski on April 8 , 2005.
