TITLE
Recommendation to refer to City Commission on Youth for development of continued City participation and coordination with Be Friendly Community and Children's Day activities.
DISCUSSION
The City's Commission on Youth is, under the City of Long Beach 2010 Strategic Plan's goal Y1 .I "charged with monitoring the well-being of youth in each of the areas addressed by the Strategic Plan." The Plan also calls for
staff to work with non-City organizations, and to provide leadership development opportunities by increasing youth involvement in planning (Y 1.3).
The Commission on Youth has been actively engaged on several levels to support our youngest residents throughout the City and requested City Council participation in prioritizing their duties. For 11 years, Be Friendly Community,
the sponsor of Children's Day, has invited the entire community "to make the world a happy place by making children's dreams come true." I would like to recognize Be Friendly Community's for its 10 years of service and commitment to the community by acknowledging the Children's Week celebration. I believe it would be consistent with the goals and objectives of the City's Strategic Plan to involve the Commission on Youth with the organization and coordination of Children's Day activities. I also request the Commission on Youth to seek an active role in their current and future activities.
