DISCUSSION
City Council approval is being requested to enter into contracts for the purchase of approximately 85 police- and fire-certified vehicles, in accordance with the replacement
schedule recommended in the Fleet Optimization Study. Additionally, it is requested that the City Council approve the purchase of additional units in Fiscal Year (FY) 06 and
FY 07, providing funds are available. On February 15, 2005, 56 potential bidders were notified of the bid opportunity; 4 are
Minority-owned Business Enterprises (MBEs), 2 are Women-owned Business Enterprises (WBEs), and 6 are L,ong Beach businesses. The bid was advertised on February 21, 2005. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing
Division located on the Plaza Level of City Hall and the Division's website at www.Ibpurchasina.org. A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing
Division's weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities sent to 32 local, minority, and women's groups. Bids were opened on March 8, 2005. Ford West of Bellflower, CA, and Pasadena Ford of Pasadena, CA, were the lowest responsible bidders.
This matter was reviewed by Senior Deputy City Attorney Donna F. Gwin on February 11,2005 and Budget Management Officer David Wodynski on March 15,2005.
