TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Attorney to pay sum of $10,808 in full settlement of lawsuit entitled Allstate Insurance Company (c/o Antonio Obispo) v. City of Long Beach.
DISCUSSION
Allstate Insurance Company filed a subrogation lawsuit on behalf of its insured Antonio Obispo, whose vehicle was rear-ended by a LBPD vehicle on July 17,2013. Allstate has agreed to accept $10,808 in full settlement representing the value of the car at the time of the incident minus the salvage amount.
In light of the potential liability, we opine that this proposed settlement represents the reasonable value of the claim. The matter was brought before the Economic Development and Finance Committee on July 1, 2014, and the Committee approved the settlement. Based thereon, we respectfully recommend that you approve this settlement
